West Hill Residents Association (WHRA)
What are we?
West Hill
Residents Association is a non-political organisation which
works with local councillors for the benefit of the village
and its residents. The WHRA focuses on maintaining and
improving the quality of life for residents.
What we do
Traditionally,
our main areas of focus have been planning, traffic and road
safety, but we are always open to new projects and more recently
we have been involved in talks with McColl’s on ways they could
be more responsive to residents needs.
Our work with
traffic and road safety has meant regular liaison with statutory
bodies, such as Devon County Council and our local county
councillor, Roger Giles. We are constantly monitoring traffic
issues and recent projects at two main entries to the village
are having some calming effects.
On planning
issues, such as extensions and new developments, we offer our
observations to Ottery Town Council, which reviews planning
applications before they are submitted to East Devon District
Council. We also work closely with our councillors who have a
responsibility for planning. Our observations on any planning
issue are guided by the West Hill Village Design statement,
published in 2006, recommending, among other things, that all
development is in keeping with our unique rural identity. If you
are unsure about a planning issue and would like more
information, we suggest you first of all discuss it with a
Central Planning Team at EDDC. If you do not have a copy of the
Village Design Statement (VDS) please contact our Chariman.
It’s a great
feeling to contribute to your local community and we are always
delighted to hear from people who are interested in joining our
management committee. If you are considering getting involved,
our Chairman/Secretary, Dan Jelly is available for an informal
chat on 814189.
If you would like to become a member of West Hill
Residents’ Association, there is more information below for
information on how to join.

household over 18 years of age that wishes to become a voting
member. Application forms are available from our post office
