What are we?

West Hill Residents Association is a non-political organisation which works with local and county councillors and other agencies for the benefit of the village .

What do we do?

We focus on maintaining and improving the quality of life for residents.

Traditionally, our main areas of focus have been planning, traffic and road safety, but we are always open to new projects and more recently we have been involved in talks with McColl’s on ways they could be more responsive to residents’ needs.

Our work with traffic and road safety has meant regular liaison with statutory bodies, such as Devon County Council and our local county councillor, Roger Giles.

On planning issues, such as extensions and new developments, we offer, where appropriate, observations to Ottery St Mary Town Council and East Devon District Council.

We work closely with local councillors Bloxham and Wright. Our observations on planning issues are guided by the West Hill Village Design Statement. This was researched, published and distributed by us in 2006. The design statement, supported by Her Majesty’s Inspector, recommends, among other issues, that all development is in keeping with our “unique rural identity”.

If you are unsure about a planning issue and would like more information, we suggest you first of all discuss it with the central planning team at East Devon District Council. They can be contacted on 01395 571531 or you can visit the council’s website at www.eastdevon.gov.uk/planning_services

How do I get involved?

It’s a great feeling to make a contribution to your local community and we are always delighted to hear from people who are interested in joining our committee. If you are considering getting involved our Chairman/Secretary, Dan Jelly, is always available for an informal chat on 814189 or come along to one of our public meetings which take place in February, June and October, details of which will be posted up around the village.

How do I become a member of WHRA?
