West Hill Primary School

We had a very successful 2006-2007 Academic Year. In June 2007, we were judged to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted. We achieved the ‘Artsmark Gold’ Award for our commitment to the teaching of The Arts: Music, Art, Dance and Drama. In addition, we achieved the Eco Schools Bronze Award for our environmental work and the Devon County Council Travelwise Platinum Award for initiatives within our School Travel Plan. We were one of 30 schools across the country who created the Chris BeaWest Hill Primary Schoolrdshaw Educational Garden which was awarded the prestigious ‘Tudor Rose Best in Show’ at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. We aim to build on our successes during the current Academic Year.

In November 2005, the Sunday Times published its top 500 schools in the country. West Hill Primary School was ranked at number 7 in the country, due to its results in the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Tests, for 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In September 2005, our school was the first in the country to be awarded the 'Healthy Schools Award' under the new award criteria. We were judged to be either 'good' or 'outstanding' in all of the 62 required standards.

In June 2006, we maintained our Investors in People Standard, with excellence, following the three-yearly review. In July 2006, we were awarded the Travelwise Gold Award for our School Travel Plan. This award followed on successfully from the Silver and Bronze Awards of the two previous years.

We are very proud of these achievements, but we are never complacent. We have a culture of doing our best in all areas of learning and school life, and we shall continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.
